MED (Multi-Effect Distillation)

MED (Multi-Effect Distillation)

Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) is a similar process as MSF with smaller outputs. In the MED process, the evaporation takes place in a vacuum, allowing the seawater to reach boiling points at lower temperatures. This makes MED more efficient and economical than MSF. Since 2004, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has designed, manufactured, and supplied small-capacity MED plants in the Middle East where we are known for our advanced technology for medium to large-capacity plants.

MSF (Multi-Stage Flash)

MSF (Multi-Stage Flash)

In the Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) process seawater is heated and evaporated, and the steam is condensed to produce desalinated water. As the water vapor is being condensed, it is used as a thermal energy source to heat incoming seawater. The evaporation and condensation is split into many stages that are repeated several times, increasing overall efficiency. One of the benefits of the MSF process is that it can produce large amounts of water at a time. Doosan Heavy Industries’ MSF business is primarily focused in the Middle Eastern market. Since starting to supply machinery in 1978, we have been implementing the whole process from design and production to the set-up of MSF desalination plants.

RO (Reverse Osmosis)

RO (Reverse Osmosis)

RO is a process that produces water by passing fine semi-permeable membranes and by applying pressure to seawater. Our RO expertise increased with our acquisition of Doosan Hydro Technology. This strategic acquisition positions us to execute the whole RO process from the design and production to the set-up of an RO plant.
